FAQ
Here you will find everything you need to know about ACADEMY.
Assembly & construction
How is the bike delivered?
Our bikes arrive approx. 95% pre-assembled in a special box. All you have to do is straighten the handlebars, screw on the pedals and adjust the saddle height.
What tools do I need for assembly?
As standard, you need a set of Allen keys and an open-end wrench for the pedals. A quick guide is included with every bike.
Do I need to adjust the brakes or gears?
Our mechanics precisely adjust the gears and brakes before shipping. If something has changed during transport, our support video or a local specialist dealer can help you.
Are there video instructions for assembly?
Yes, on our YouTube channel you will find step-by-step videos that explain the structure of the different grade models.
Find the right size
How do I find the right size for my child?
At ACADEMY we primarily focus on body size. Our models (Grade 2 to Grade 6) cover the range from approx. 95 cm to 165 cm. Use our size advisor on the product page.
What is more important: age or height?
Definitely the one Body size. Since children grow at different rates, age is only a rough guide. The inside leg length is crucial so that the child can safely reach the floor with their feet.
Can I buy the bike “as an addition”?
We advise against this. A wheel that is too large affects handling and safety. Thanks to the extremely low weight of our bikes, children learn much faster on the exactly right size.
Are the saddle and handlebars height adjustable?
- Yes. Both the saddle height and the handlebar position can be individually adjusted so that the bike grows with your child over a long period of time.
Shipping & Delivery
How much are the shipping costs?
We deliver free shipping within Germany for orders above a certain value. You can find the exact flat rates for abroad in our shipping overview.
How long does delivery take?
Your bike usually leaves our warehouse within 1-3 working days. Delivery by courier or parcel service usually takes another 2-4 working days.
Will the bike be delivered to your door?
Yes, delivery is carried out by a parcel service directly to your specified desired address.
Can I track my shipment?
As soon as your ACADEMY bike leaves our warehouse, you will receive an email with a tracking link for tracking the shipment.
Returns & Guarantee
How long can I return the bike?
You have the statutory right of withdrawal of 14 days. The bike should only have been briefly tested on clean surfaces for a full refund.
How does return shipping work?
Contact our support. We will either have the bike picked up or send you a return label. Please keep the original box for safe return transport.
How long is the guarantee period?
In addition to the statutory warranty, we often offer extended warranties on the frame. Details can be found in the warranty conditions in your user manual.
What do I do if there is a defect?
If a component does not work, send us a photo/video and your order number by email. We will immediately send replacement parts or find a solution with a local workshop.
Accessories & spare parts
Which accessories fit my ACADEMY bike?
We offer matching mudguards, stands and luggage racks that are specifically designed for the ultralight frames.
Are stands included?
This varies depending on the model. As a rule, our bikes are designed to be puristic and lightweight, but a suitable side stand can easily be ordered in the shop.
Where can I get spare parts such as hoses or brake pads?
We carry all common wear parts in our online shop. Alternatively, many standard components from specialist retailers are suitable.
Can I retrofit a luggage rack?
Yes, the frames of our larger models have appropriate mounting points for common children's bike luggage racks.
Maintenance & Care
How often does the bike need to be serviced?
We recommend an initial check after approx. 200 km or 3 months and then an annual inspection to guarantee safety and smooth running.
What is the best way to clean the bike?
Use lukewarm water, a mild detergent and a soft sponge. Avoid high-pressure cleaners as they can wash the grease out of the bearings.
Does the chain need to be oiled?
Yes, a clean and lightly oiled chain ensures silent driving and less wear. Excess oil should be wiped off with a cloth.
What should I pay attention to before every trip?
Briefly check the tire pressure, the function of the brakes and whether the quick release on the saddle is tight.
Technology & lightweight construction
Why are ACADEMY bikes so light?
We use triple-butted aluminum tubes and weight-optimized components. A light bike is crucial for children to maintain balance and save energy.
What is the “Q-Factor” concept?
- The Q factor describes the distance between the pedals. Our bikes have a very low Q-factor, which makes the leg position ergonomic and prevents knee pain.
Are the brakes suitable for children's hands?
Absolutely. We install special V-brakes with adjustable levers that are easy for small hands to grip and easy to dose.
How heavy is an ACADEMY bike in comparison?
Our bikes often weigh up to 40% less than standard children's bikes. The Grade 2, for example, only weighs around 5.3 kg.
